If you are of New Zealand Māori descent, now is the time to choose which electoral roll you would like to be on when you vote in the next two elections – The Māori Electoral Roll or the General Roll.
Keep in mind that you can only make this decision upon your first-time enrolling or during the Māori Electoral Option period. The next Option isn’t scheduled until 2024, which means your decision now counts for the next six years.
The Māori Electoral Option runs from Tuesday 3rd April – 2 August 2018.
We think that it’s important for you if you are of NZ Māori descent to take the time to understand and consider your options during this period.
If this applies to you, you may have already received a personalised Māori Electoral Option pack in the mail, containing all need-to-know information.
If you do not wish to change the electoral roll you are on you do not need to do anything. However, if you are considering the change here are some easy ways to make the switch:
- Scan or photograph your letter and upload it to maorioption.org.nz
- Scan or photograph your letter and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
- Post it in the reply envelope provided in your pack
