Wellington Tonga Youth Awards

Pasifika Futures is proud to be part of the awards celebration for Tongan youth and their achievements at the recent inaugural Wellington Tonga Youth Awards, held at Te Wharewaka o Poneke in Wellington on 24 June.

The Wellington Tongan Council Leaders organised the first ever Wellington event which recognises Tongan youth and acknowledges the contribution of high-achievers.

Edna ‘Ugatea Tu’itupou-Havea, executive member of the Wellington Tongan Council Leaders says the awards not only recognise hard-working Tongan youth, but encourages and motivates young people to strive for excellence.

“The event will hopefully encourage more Tongan youth to excel in their fields of expertise and participate fully for their communities and churches and inspire many other young people to follow in their footsteps.”

“The event was truly inspiring. A big thank you to Rev Hiueni Nuku, Chairperson, Mrs Violani Wills and Sofilisi Ta’ufo’ou as Assistant chairs, Tae Tu’inukuafe as the Project Manager and Sokopeti Sina, assistant secretary for all their hard work and determination in staging an event to acknowledge the contribution of Tongan youth in the Capital,” says Mrs Tu’itupou-Havea.

The Awards featured three categories; leadership, sports and education.
