Etu Pasifika Auckland have continued to respond to families' needs through their Etu Rere Call Centre, following the impact of the recent floods and cyclone. They also continue to provide medical support to evacuation centres such as the Henderson Evacuation Centre, with a team of five recently sent to support evacuees from Muriwai.

As the upper North Island continues to be prepared for Cyclone Gabrielle, Pasifika Futures (PFL), the Whānau Ora commissioning agency for Pacific families, will continue to support affected communities, having invested $1.8 million into flood relief support.

We sat down with CEO of The Fono, Tevita Funaki, and their Whānau Ora team to talk about the work they do to serve families under their programme.

During the Delta outbreak in 2021, Pasifika Futures (PFL) partnered with De La Salle College to offer Covid-19 support to their school population. The all boys school is located in the South Auckland suburb of Mangere, with a mission to educate boys in a Catholic environment of love and service.

Pasifika Futures (PFL), the Whānau Ora commissioning agency for Pacific families, have urgently mobilised support in response to the recent Auckland floods. PFL has currently invested $1.17 million into several partners, ensuring that immediate on-the-ground relief support has been readily available for families in need.

South Seas Healthcare, located in Ōtara is a health and well-being provider that aims to serve and provide the community with excellence. South Seas Healthcare was founded in 1999 and currently offer a wide range of different services; they have grown to become the largest integrated Pacific provider in Ōtara.

On Friday 27th January 2023, multiple international flights were diverted from Auckland due to the floods. Among these flights was an Air New Zealand flight from Tonga carrying 300 passengers, which was diverted to Christchurch. Pasifika Futures Ltd (PFL), the Pacific Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency, and Etu Pasifika Christchurch mobilised quickly alongside Air New Zealand staff and local community groups to support passengers with food, accommodation and necessities.

The extreme weather events in Auckland over the weekend have seen many Pacific families request urgent food and welfare support, and Pasifika Futures Ltd (PFL), the Pacific Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency, have mobilised quickly to respond to these needs by working closely with core partners such as The Fono and Etu Pasifika Auckland to serve our most vulnerable communities.

We met with the team at PICT Gisborne about the work they do; we also had the opportunity to speak to two mothers who have received support for their family. The team at PICT is carrying out some amazing work to serve Pacific families in their region!

Ōtāhuhu College is a school located in South Auckland and has a long-standing partnership with Pasifika Futures (PFL). With around 1000 pupils, 80% of the student population is made up Pasifika and Māori. The college works alongside PFL in an innovative way, where the vision and goal is to enhance the educational well-being of students and make it sustainable.

Situated amongst the vibrant atmosphere of Tauranga is the Pacific Island Community Trust (PICT) Bay of Plenty. PICT Bay of Plenty is an organisation that focuses on health, well-being and social services. Their team is made up of around eighteen staff and approaches health from a holistic Pacific perspective.
