2024 Whānau Ora Awards concludes a successful first day of the PFL Conference
Updates / Events , 26 Jul 24
The Pasifika Futures (PFL) Whānau Ora Conference had a successful first day, with over 200 delegates from around the country gathered to celebrate ten years of the Whānau Ora programme. Stories of impact, hope and resilience were shared by keynote speakers and panellists, with an emphasis on the importance of financial freedom, health and education.

As the day progressed, keynote speakers shared thoughtful insights, followed by inspiration panel sessions where delegates could hear from Whānau Ora navigators, families, community leaders and experts in their field.

April Kyle, President and CEO of Southcentral Foundation (SCF), travelled all the way from Alaska with her team to attend the conference, as well as visit PFL partners across the country. Her keynote address spoke to SCF’s integrated model of care, acknowledging their success comes from working together with their community and building strong relationships.

To conclude the day, the Whānau Ora Awards celebrated the hard work for four deserving partners:

  • Keni Moeroa from Pacific Trust Otago - Courageous Leadership and Navigator Long Service Award
  • Aotearoa Tongan Health Workers Association - Core Performance Award
  • Oceania Career Academy - Innovation Performance Award
  • Kuki Learning - Commissioning for Communities Performance Award

Presented by PFL Chair, Dr Kiki Maoate, and PFL CEO, Debbie Sorensen, awardees expressed their gratitude to serve their communities, acknowledging that it always a collective effort.

Other spontaneous presentations followed, with the Southcentral Foundation presenting a gift to the Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) Group, as well as presentations from community partners to CEO Debbie Sorensen.

As guests prepare for the final day of the Conference, gratitude and service have been common themes amongst delegates - fitting as we continue to celebrate ten years of the Whānau Ora programme.
