Kanorau Digital Course empowering families to navigate the digital world
Updates / News , 22 Dec 22
Throughout this year, Pasifika Futures' (PFL) Learning and Development (L&D) team have been delivering the Kanorau Digital Course for Pacific communities and families across the country – the programme aims to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge to use a laptop and navigate online tools.

The Kanorau Digital course was facilitated in 11 different regions and served 255 individuals. At the end of the training, participants were gifted with a Chromebook to help them continue their navigation of the digital world.

L&D Facilitator, David Soane, says the course is a platform for Pacific people, families and elders to learn and build the confidence when using a laptop and the internet.

"Kanorau Digital is a digital literacy programme that we deliver to our Pasifika families; we want to build the capability and the knowledge of our families.

During our training, we talanoa with our families and guide them along the way and go through things such as creating an email, how to send one and using Google applications such as Google Documents and Google Sheets."

Soane says a programme like Kanorau is especially important, with online communication and interactions having become more of a norm following the Covid-19 pandemic.

"As we know, during the pandemic, face to face interactions lessened and we were communicating a lot more online. What this meant was that our families had to adapt to the situation and for a lot of our people, they're unfamiliar with tools like Zoom.

So through this course, it's important that we help our communities adapt to this digital era."

The Kanorau Digital Course will continue to serve Pacific families and will re-commence next year.
