This is the first time the Whānau Ora conference is taking place since before the COVID-19 pandemic. PFL Board Chair, Dr Kiki Maoate ONZM FRACS, says the conference will serve as an opportunity to reconnect and reflect with each other.
"We continue to identify significant adversities for our Pacific families and we need to make sure that at all levels, people are aware of the ongoing challenges they are facing. The conference is an opportunity for us to have these conversations as well as reflect on the last three years, acknowledging that we've done a good job so far and that we must continue with our responsiveness during times of emergency.
"PFL continues to champion our Pacific families and communities; they remain at the helm of our priorities, so the conference is a chance for us to plan and be innovative in our implementation of support for our families, alongside our partners."
The Whānau Ora conference will feature a number of high calibre keynote speakers, thought provoking panel discussions and opportunities to talanoa about emergency response, education, primary care, sports, mental health, culture and connection, and prosperity.
PFL CEO, Debbie Sorensen, says the conference is an opportunity to highlight partnerships and collaboration as a key part of PFL's work.
"We're incredibly grateful to our partners who have a passion and heart to serve Pacific families across New Zealand. We have strong and trusted partnerships that allow us to work together to provide opportunities for our families to thrive.
We're also very pleased to welcome Hon Peeni Henare, Hon Barbara Edmonds and Hon Aupito Su'a William Sio as some of our keynote speakers. We value these key relationships as well as all those who support PFL's vision."
The PFL Whānau Ora conference will take place Thursday 23 March – Friday 24 March at the Holiday Inn Auckland Airport in Māngere.
