Updates / Events , 12 Oct 22
Pasifika Futures' (PFL) CEO, Debbie Sorensen and Director of Performance and Evaluation, Seini Jensen, recently spoke at the Social Outcomes Conference hosted at Oxford University in England, which featured a globally diverse audience and representative speakers.

The Social Outcomes Conference is an annual meeting of the world’s leading researchers, policymakers and practitioners working towards improving social outcomes in their respective nations.

PFL is the Whānau Ora commissioning agency for Pacific families; Sorensen and Jensen were excited at the opportunity to present on the organisation’s work in enhancing the livelihood of Pasifika communities in New Zealand.

Since 2014, PFL have invested $149 million into Pacific families, with 328,947 individuals reached. PFL’s support has also improved over 132,000 family well-being outcomes.

“We talked about the measurement that supports Pacific families on their journeys. Our purpose is to get families supported on the path to prosperity,” says Jensen.

Sorensen says the opportunity to share about PFL and PMA’s mission on a global scale is especially important for Pacific communities.

“Having the opportunity to share alongside other world leaders is indeed a great thing and is also an opportunity to gather new ideas and to see where we sit on an international stage.”

She also says the conference allowed them to communicate the contribution of Pacific communities to the growing and diverse New Zealand population.

PMA and PFL continue to strive towards a vision that uplifts Pacific families and enables them to prosper; Jensen says it has been rewarding to see the social outcomes within Pacific communities progressing.

“Pasifika Futures have maintained our mission of changing the outcomes for our people. The key to resolving our social outcomes is ourselves. Over the years there has been a lot of hard work put into changing those previous outcomes and as a result we have seen great progression and positive impacts for our families.”
