Updates / Events , 29 Sep 23
The Trust Arena stadium, Auckland, where the beat of Cook Islands drums set the stage for the Tu Rangatira Awards. VIPs were greeted with a warm Turou (welcoming). It was a night dedicated to celebrating Cook Islands' accomplishments across eight exciting categories, marking the start of a thrilling two-day Te Maeva Nui festival.

This year, 43 remarkable individuals were recognized by Cook Islanders worldwide for their outstanding achievements.

Pasifika Futures proudly sponsors the Community Awards, designed to applaud significant contributions to the Cook Islands community in New Zealand across various fields. This category led with 10 finalists, surpassing all others.

Dr Kiki Maoate, Chair of Pasifika Futures, pays tribute to the community's elders and the invaluable work of Cook Islands leaders.

"We must pause and acknowledge our elders. They guide our youth, and our communities thrive because of them."

"Pasifika Futures touches the lives of every Pacific person here, if not across the entire country. Take pride in the support you provide to our families and communities."

Dr Maoate concludes by congratulating all this year's finalists and presents the Community Award to Selina Vainerere Patia, who graciously extends her gratitude to her family, leaders, youth, and her community.

"To all our leaders, you steer the vessel of our culture. I humbly ask you to navigate it with love, patience, and understanding."

As the night winds down with lively music, the highly anticipated Te Maeva Nui weekend begins. Get ready for a celebration like no other!
