Held at the Templeton Community Centre, the event was hosted by Kuki Learning, an innovative online platform created by Charlie Charlie and Tom Harrison Jr to promote and preserve the Cook Islands language and culture. The day-long celebration was proudly supported by Pasifika Futures, reflecting our commitment to supporting cultural identity, community wellbeing and Pacific-led initiatives.
Families and the local community were welcomed with the rhythms of live music, traditional dance, and the smell of Cook Islands cuisine. Cultural performances engaged the crowd as well as workshops offering opportunities to learn traditional dance, language, and crafts.
Kia Orana Day also featured local food and art, showcasing the talents and spirit within the community.
Events like these are a testament to the power of community-led efforts in keeping our languages, traditions, and stories alive. Pasifika Futures is proud to support Kuki Learning and the Christchurch community in celebrating and strengthening Cook Islands heritage in Aotearoa.
