Updates / Community , 14 May 25
The Mairani Rotuman Group Auckland marked Rotuma Day with a celebration of culture, identity, and unity, which saw a vibrant event that brought together community, young and old, to honour the rich heritage of Rotuma.

The evening was part of the celebrations for Rotuma Language Week and was a moment of reflection, learning, and pride. The community were immersed in traditional songs, language, and stories that spoke to the uniqueness of Rotuman identity and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

Pasifika Futures was proud to support the event, standing alongside the Mairani Rotuman Group in its commitment to cultural preservation and intergenerational learning. As an organisation that values the strength of community and the richness of Pacific cultures, supporting the group was a meaningful way to uphold these shared values.

The celebration served as both an educational space and a joyful gathering, reminding us all of the importance of cultural expression in building confident, connected Pacific communities.

"Rotuma Day is not just for Rotumans, but for everyone to learn, appreciate and join in the celebration of who we are," said Executive Committee Member, Fipe. "It’s about visibility, pride, and passing on our culture."

Pasifika Futures remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that honour and uplift our diverse Pacific peoples, ensuring that every culture, no matter how small, has the space to shine.
