Moana Nui Festival brings Pacific culture to life in Dunedin
Updates / Community , 31 Mar 25
Dunedin came alive over the weekend as the Moana Nui Festival celebrated the vibrant cultures of the Pacific, drawing families, performers, and cultural groups from across Aotearoa. Held at Forsyth Barr Stadium, the festival showcased traditional music, dance, arts, and food, offering a space for the Pacific community to connect and share their heritage with the wider public. The festival was led and organised by the Pacific Trust Otago (PTO), a Pasifika Futures (PFL) partner.

As a proud sponsor of the event, PFL was honoured to support this celebration of culture, identity, and community. The festival aligns with our commitment to strengthening Pacific families by preserving cultural traditions and fostering intergenerational connections. By creating opportunities for communities to come together and celebrate their roots, Moana Nui embodies the values of resilience, pride, and collective well-being that we strive to uplift.

The festival featured performances from local and national Pacific groups, weaving together the diverse traditions of Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Niue, Tokelau, Cook Islands, and more. Stalls offering traditional foods and crafts added to the experience, allowing attendees to embrace the full richness of the Pacific.

With Dunedin’s growing Pacific community, events like Moana Nui are vital in fostering a sense of belonging and pride. PFL remains committed to uplifting and empowering our communities, ensuring that our culture remains strong and that our families continue to thrive.
