Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, TAT did not shy away from providing the community with support through welfare and vaccination accessibility. During this time they also ran a 'Covid Champions' campaign which featured locals offering their perspective on the Covid-19 vaccine. This saw the trust be recognised with an award from the Public Relations Industry New Zealand (PRINZ).
General Manager for TAT, Carmen Collie, says TAT also have other key community needs that they continue to address.
“Youth mental health is a huge priority need in our Canterbury community. Christchurch has seen earthquakes, the mosque shootings and racism due to our mixed ethnicities and population.
It is unique in Canterbury; our goals when addressing needs such as these are to draw strength from our culture and families and apply these values to our approaches."
TAT has a strong community outreach and have a range of different services and programmes. Funding from Pasifika Futures (PFL) helps fund some of their initiatives and they are grateful that they are able to directing their funding and support to youth voice projects and programmes for the community.
“TAT has positioned itself as an outreach health and social service provider with programmes including mobile nursing, healthy homes, healthy lifestyles, financial mentoring and navigation that support our families in the community."
The positive and successful results that TAT has had a positive effect on the community and she describes this as the most rewarding part of her role.
"Tangata Atumotu staff are passionate and service-driven. Our organisation's values underpin all of our interactions with our community; we aim to be culturally responsive, warm and professional."
The team at TAT enjoy being active within the community and are devoted to serving the Pacific population, creating safe spaces for them to connect and thrive together.
