PFL Partner Series: Tupumaiaga A Niue Trust
Updates / Community , 25 Jul 23
The Tupumaiaga A Niue Trust was first established in January 2007 and is based in Auckland, New Zealand. The organisation is a non-profit, volunteer group, whose purpose is to provide aid to Niuean youth and families, as they navigate the challenges of being a diaspora, and work hard to reconnect with their heritage and root foundations.

Funds and Programmes Coordinator for the Trust, Zora Feilo, recounts some of the many achievements realised throughout the Trusts’ efforts to fulfil their purpose for Niuean youth and families.

“We have played an active role in growing the well-being of Niuean youth and families through creative and heritage art workshops. We reach communities across Aotearoa, Australia and Niue island.

"We have also recently completed our first Umu camp in Aotearoa and run weekly conversational Niue language classes in Sandringham, Auckland. Tupumaiaga A Niue Trust is a platform to embrace Niue identity, language, culture and heritage for all tagata Niue.

The relationship between Pasfika Futures (PFL) and Tupumaiaga A Niue Trust is meaningful to both organisations, as both work together to achieve the mutual objective of achieving positive outcomes and prosperity for Pacific communities and families.

The driving force and defining characteristic of the Tupumaiaga A Niue Trust lies in the targeted work of enhancing the lives of our Niuean community through a number of different initiatives and pathways.

“We are incredibly grateful for the partnership with Pasifika Futures, we feel so grateful for our work that we provide our community with and a part of this is a result of our collaboration.

"Working together allows us to take care of our Niuean youth and communities. We thank God for the blessings. Kia fakamonuina mai he Atua. Oue tulou."

Tupumaiaga A Niue Trust are the only community group in Auckland specifically dedicated to Niuean workshops and initiatives.  The Trust also responds to community needs, the significance of this felt during the Covid-19 pandemic, where the community group were first responders and provided food parcels to those in dire need.

Having identified many other high priority needs and challenges amongst the Niuean community, Tupumaiaga A Niue Trusts’ presence is of high importance in the community due to the fundamental role they play in outreach aspects of connecting with the Pacific, in this case, specifically Niuean.

Driven by a passion for their people, the Tupumaiaga A Niue Trust continues to work tirelessly to advocate for and provide as many opportunities as possible for their communities.
