The Matauala hall in Porirua saw the local Tokelaun community along with a number of esteemed guests in attendance for the launch, an opportunity for the team at ATCG to share about the vision and purpose behind 'Taiuli'. Speaking with pride and emotion, President of the group, Lehi Tenise Atoni, offered insights around what the initiative means for the Tokelau community.
"This plan has been in development for the last three years and is about looking at how we move forward for the next 30 years. Underpinning this masterplan are our Tokelau values, the way that we look after ourselves and our system of unity making sure that no one is left behind.
"The strategy provides a foundational platform for our strategic direction and future aspirations. The masterplan focuses on how we meet the changing world and communities that we live in and is a blueprint for the development of our Tokelau community here and all over New Zealand for the next three decades."
Project Lead for ATCG, Zechariah Reuelu, says their 30-year plan is a significant step towards prosperity for the Tokelauan community.
"This launch is an accumulation of a vision that has been thought, talked about and written over the last few years. As a community we are standing on a land that was purchased through sacrifice and investment by those that came here in the 60's and 70's, and looking at how we leverage in good faith and wisdom to help our Tokelauan families to live a full life.
"Our culture, heritage and language are a core part of who we are as Tokelauns and integration of that is critical in terms of ensuring that our culture and language never disappear. This plan is putting a mark for our generation to see how they can implement the action and application for this vision that helps the prosperity of Tokelauans here in Aotearoa to live a full life that is prosperous."
